File Manager (traditional)

The (traditional) File Manager is used to manage all the files associated with or referenced by the content on the web site.  From the file manager you can edit various aspects of the file, upload additional files, or select them for use inside a module.

You can use the input box near the top of the window to filter or search for a file, or use the page links to move between pages.  You may resort the list by clicking on a column title to sort, or reverse the sort on that column.

Clicking on the File Name displays a preview and information about the file such as the owner, file type, height & width of a graphic, file size, and the url to the file.  If the file is an mp3, flv, or f4v file, you may also preview it.

Clicking on the Title, or the blank area in the Title column, allows you to edit the Title used for this file.  This is what will be displayed as the "title" of the file when used as web content.

Clicking on the alt, or the blank area in the alt column, allows you to edit the alt title used for this file.  This is what will be displayed in place of the file or used as a pop-up description when used as web content.

Clicking on the box in the column, allows you to set whether the file is available publicly.

Clicking on the action will select the file and send it's name back to the file selector.  It does not function if the file manager wasn't displayed as a result of a "file request" action.

Clicking the action will bring up the Pixidou online image editor to perform some minor graphic editing.  The icon will be disabled if the file is not a graphic.

Clicking the delete action will delete the file from the file manager.  Using this action will also delete the file from the server and reload the window.

The Select column allows you to select more than one file for either 'Using' them by using the 'Use Select Files' button which is available at the bottom of the file manager if the file manager was called from an Exponent file selector, or to Delete more than one file at a time using the 'Delete Selected Files' button at the bottom of the file manager.  'Delete Selected Files' will NOT reload the page, but displays the updates (files removed) on the page after delected on the server.

Additionally, there are two command buttons at the bottom of the screen that allow you to add files to the file manager which are already on the server, or delete items in the file manager which do not have a corresponding file on the server.

There is a tab within Site Configuration which allows you to optionally display thumbnails in the file manager and set the number of files displayed per page, in addition to setting the initial pop-up window size.
