Text

The Text module is the basic module used to add static text and graphics to web sites.  It can also be used to display multiple "chunks" of text called text items all at once, in tabs, or as a randomly chosen item.  The text module uses a What-you-see-is-what-you-get or WYSIWYG editor which allows great flexibility with styles.

When adding a text module to your container, you're presented with two content actions: Show all with several content display options, and a second content action of Show Random Text with one content display option: Default.  When you select an Content Action, the Content Display list is updated to reflect the display options.

Selecting the Show all action with Default as your content display will display all your text items in a user selectable vertical sequence with titles in a module configured heading tag, along with your styled body content. Any files added to your text item will be displayed in accordance to your module's Files configuration. The Module Title and Text Item titles are displayed in a Heading tag as set within the module configuration.

Other Show All display types are:

  • Selecting Accordion as your content display will display all your text items in a separate element. with titles as the element name, along with your styled body content in a collapsed or hidden area which is revealed when the item title is clicked.
  • Selecting Headline as your content display will display only the title of your text items and is primarily a backwards compatibility feature for the decprecated Headlines module.

  • Selecting Inline as your content display will not only display all your text items but allow you to edit, delete, or add to text items directly on the page without having to go to an edit item screen.  There is a separate link to add or delete the item title apart from the actual text item being added/deleted.

  • Select Single as your display content will only display the first text item in the module and primarily a backwards compatibility feature for the decprecated v1.x module.

  • Selecting Tabview as your content display will display all your text items in a separate tab. with titles as the tab name, along with your styled body content.

  • Selecting Toggle as your content display will display all your text items in a list with the title displayed and optionally a summary of the content.  The full content of a text item will be revealed when the user clicks on the item title.  Though it is similar to the Accordion view, there are subtle differences.

The Show Random Text action with Default as your content display will randomly display one of your text items each time you visit the page.  This is best used AFTER you have created all the possible text items since only one is displayed at a time with this action/display.  If you wish to edit your text items, you may want to switch back to a 'showall' action view to display all the text items within this module.

The text module offers three areas of general configuration: Module, Aggregation, and Files.

Module
The Module configuration tab allows you to control several aspects of how this text module is displayed

Aggregation
The Aggregation configuration tab allows you to display text items from other text modules added in other parts of your website. Within this configuration tab, you'll see a list of checkboxes displaying the Module Title of the text items, and the Page that they are on. An option to suppress the editor's ability to edit a text item aggregated from another source is also available.

A great use-case would be to have four pages in your website which speak of a seminar you offer.  You would add a text module, and text items on the main page. On the three other pages, you add other text modules which are configured to aggregate the content from your main page.  Whenever you update the text item on one page, you're also updating the other three pages simultaneously.  Now the content across your website easily compliments instead of contradicts the information found on other pages.

Files
Within the Files configuration, you're presented options as to if you'd like to allow file attachments, and if so how you'd like to display files that you're adding to a text item.  When you select a method to display files, you'll be presented many options which affect that type of file display.  At the bottom of the tab you'll find a setting to have all files uploaded in that module to be placed within a subfolder of the /files directory to make them easier to manage.
